Route a Release Question
North Carolina release records belong to the agency that held or supervised the person. Use the NCDAC Criminal Offender Searches gateway for state-prison, probation, or parole history. The NCDAC Public Records office and its online request form handle requests for releasable state correctional records. For post-release supervision, the Community Supervision office directory routes users to the correct field office; the statewide division number is 919-716-3100.
- For a county-jail release, select the responsible sheriff or regional jail through the County Directory.
- For the fields and request routes at both custody layers, start with the statewide release-record overview.
- For supervision after release, use North Carolina parole and probation and the NCDAC office directory.
- For a named jail, prison, juvenile site, or federal complex, open the Facility Directory.
- For a released or discharged state prisoner, use the NCDAC offender search.
- For federal custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator or the ICE detainee locator. Juvenile records require authorized Juvenile Justice or court contact.
